Following the announcement at the start of the year, of the BBC 6 Music Festival coming to Bristol in February, the Thekla team decided that the event likely needed some real representation of current Bristol music talent to accompany what seemed like the relentless onslaught of the old “Bristol Sound” in the main line-up.
Thekla approached three of their favourite, well-respected independent Bristol promoters, and asked them to put together line-ups reflecting their view of the best live acts in Bristol in 2015 and, thankfully, they said yes.
Friday’s line-up is curated by local agency, management and promotions outfit Electric Harmony who invited long-time post-punk Thekla favourites Idles to headline. They are joined by the incredibly fast-ascending October Drift, alongside skate-punk legends The Gnarwhals.
On Saturday, Chiverin takes the reins, following multiple sell-out events at The Louisiana; Aled has been an incredible tastemaker of the Bristol scene over the last 18 months. He invites previous headliners Plastic Mermaids and Little Dusty, along with Goan Dogs and Something Anorak to Thekla for his first show at the venue.
Finishing the weekend, it’s Howling Owl, following their sold out New Year New Noise event at Arnolfini in January. Their line-up combines forward-thinking electronic music, courtesy of Young Echo Sound and the grime upstarts of Sector7, along with some of the best progressive guitar-orientated acts, with the likes of Giant Swan, Velcro Hooks and Silver Waves testing Thekla’s L’acoustics sound system to it’s limits.
All three events across the weekend are entirely free entry, with 200 tickets available in advance via Dice FM and the remainder held on the door.
