Real Friends

DHP Presents: Real Friends

Colored by brushstrokes of punk, pop, and emo, Chicago’s Real Friends became one of the biggest breakout acts following the release of their debut, Maybe This Place Is the Same and We’re Just Changing (2014) and solidified their place as frontrunners in the alternative scene, with their sophomore record, The Home Inside My Head, as both albums earned Billboard Top 200 chart placement. To record The Home Inside My Head, the band treaded new territory by recording with two producers, three songs with producer Mike Green (Pierce The Veil, All Time Low) and nine with Steve Evetts (The Wonder Years, Dillinger Escape Plan). As they expanded their sonic palette, the lyrical vision also grew. Another first, Dan Lambton split writing duties, penning lyrics to four songs. The Home Inside My Head is Real Friends’ coming-of-age story, about a common realization that things won’t be the same as they were during childhood, and that’s okay. The Chicagoland quintet chose to put this journey on tape and let their lyrics spin into something positive, used as a therapeutic outlet for both Kyle and Dan. Noted as one of Alternative Press Magazine’s Most Anticipated Albums of 2016, and a truly personal album for Real Friends, The Home Inside My Head, resonated with fans in its own unique way, giving them something to relate to and connect with individually. Now, Real Friends are ready to embark on a new journey – having released their latest high-energy single “Get By” and currently putting the finishing touches their forthcoming third studio album, already named as one of Alternative Press Magazines Most Anticipated Albums of 2018. The album is slated for a summer release.

“This song in particular addresses uncertainties pertaining to not knowing what may be good for you or in your best interest,” explains Lambton. “Whether it be medication, drugs, alcohol, psychiatric treatment, etc. and generally not being able to navigate the inner workings of your mind to know what is going on with your mental state.”

It’s been two years since the band released their third studio LP, The Home Inside My Head, which earned a Billboard Top 200 chart placement. Since then, the band has sold out shows across the country and has been actively writing/recording in the studio.
