Boomania 35 Continued…
Betty Boo is a British pop-rap trailblazer who first burst onto the scene in the late 1980s with her infectious blend of dance-pop and hip-hop. Rising to fame through her collaboration with The Beatmasters on the track “Hey DJ/I Can’t Dance (To That Music You’re Playing)”, she quickly established herself as one of the UK’s most exciting new voices.
Her platinum-selling debut album Boomania (1990) delivered a string of Top 10 hits, including the unforgettable “Doin’ the Do” and “Where Are You Baby?”, the latter peaking at No. 3 in the UK charts. That same year, she won the Brit Award for British Breakthrough Act, cementing her status as a pop powerhouse. Betty Boo followed up with her second album, GRRR! It’s Betty Boo (1992), which featured another hit single, “Let Me Take You There”.
After stepping back from performing to focus on her family, Betty Boo turned her talents to songwriting, penning tracks for other artists, including the record-breaking hit “Pure and Simple” by Hear’Say, which earned her an Ivor Novello Award. She also wrote for acts like Girls Aloud, further proving her lasting influence on British pop music.
In 2022, Betty Boo made a triumphant return to the spotlight with Boomerang, her first solo album in 30 years, reintroducing fans to her signature sound with a modern twist. This was followed by her bold and genre-blending album Rip Up the Rulebook in 2024, showcasing a fearless mix of pop, disco, EDM, and hip-hop.
